Concessions

You can book your journey online if you hold one of the concession cards displayed below (except Study fares). Please call 13 22 32 to book Study fares and all other concession fares. Concessions cannot be used in conjunction with promotional fares or discounts offered by CountryLink. Concessions are not available on ancillary charges.

When booking your concession fare online, please enter your concession card number as a whole number without dashes or spaces in the ID field.

NSW Half Fare Entitlement Card

People in receipt of commonwealth benefits including unemployment; people attending special migrant English courses; people attending educational programs for unemployed youth.

Half the ordinary adult seat fare for the cardholder only for journeys wholly within NSW. Travel must be within the card's validity or full adult fare will be charged.

Retired NSW Transport Employee Card

Former employees of the State Rail Authority and State Transit Authority.

Half the ordinary adult seat fare for the cardholder only for journeys wholly within NSW.

NSW Student Identification Card

NSW student card

For full time NSW/ACT students attending University, TAFE or Private College who are 16 years and over and school students (see secondary student) 19 years and over. Must be enrolled for a minimum of 9 weeks; attending day classes; but not engaged in business or employment; not a full-fee paying overseas student; not an external study student; and not in receipt of remuneration excluding Austudy, allowances, etc.

  • TAFE and private college students must attend face-to-face day classes for no less than 20 hours a week.
  • Disabled students who fulfil all other criteria but who are unable to take a full course load due to their disability are also eligible.

The card must be endorsed with a CityRail foil.

International Student Identity Card

Full time students over 16 attending university, TAFE or private college for a specific number of hours per week. Available to all students worldwide. For full details on eligibility, visit the ISIC website.

Full time students whose cards are endorsed with "student" ("youth" or "teacher" cards are not valid); cards must have expiry date and control number.

NSW School Pupil Identification Card

NSW school pupil card

For school students aged 16, 17 and 18 years enrolled full time in a NSW/ACT secondary school, and students registered with the Board of Studies as a full-time home-schooled or distance education (OTEN) secondary student.

The card must be endorsed with a CityRail foil.

Child fare on all CountryLink services.

Study fare

International and Australian tertiary students who are not eligible for the student fare, but in possession of any form of identification confirming they are undertaking full time or part time studies.

The identification must display the name of the educational facility, the students name and student number. In addition, a second form of identification with a photo, such as a drivers license or passport must be presented at the time of ticketing and carried when travelling.
